are Implicit Grid always the same fixed height and width?

Are Implicit Grid always the same fixed height and width? like at 3:23 in this video. When more is added, they all look like the same small. Are these always the default?

By default, implicit grid cells are at least wide and tall enough to align with existing cells in the same row and column, but they also expand to hold their contents.
