Background color only changing when I select properties. Is my treefile the problem or syntax?

I took the liberty to add properties and values to remove bullets and add orange as a background color earlier. That said, it would be good to know why my workspace isn't adding the style sheets.

You misspelled orange in the main.css file. Correct that, and you should be ok.

Did you add the following in your html code?

<link rel="stylesheet" href="css/main.css">

I believe I did below the style sheet before the </head>. I've attached a snapshot to view my work so far. Thank you in advance for any assistance.
