Benefit of using background-attachment "local" versus "scroll"?

What is the benefit of using background-attachment "local"? I guess I just can't figure it out according to the training video.

Thanks!

scroll scrolls with the main page, but remains fixed inside it's containing element, while local scrolls with the main page and it's containing element. If you review the video again hopefully you can see what I mean.
