Border around #newColor span?

Hi all,

I know this question has nothing to do jQuery per se, but I experimenting with adding a thin black border around the span #newColor. Targeting the span with a CSS selector with "border: black 2px;" does not seem to affect anything. What am I missing?

border: black solid 2px;
