Build a Simple Android App has been updated!

Hey all!

We've been hard at work updating the first course in the Android track to be more current, and it's just been released!

The older version is now titled 'Build a Simple Android App (2014)', and the new version has taken over the 'Build a Simple Android App' name.

The two main differences between the two are:

  • The new version is on a more recent release of Android Studio, and incorporates a lot of the little changes that have happened in Android in the meantime. It's nothing major, but when you're trying to learn something new it doesn't take a lot to throw off your groove.

  • The new version no longer includes teaching Java. When Build a Simple Android App was first released we didn't have a Java track, but now we do and we recommend taking the first few courses before starting Android.

Hope you like it!

Great to hear! I enjoyed the original course, I'll make sure to try out the new one too.

Hey Ben, enjoyed the new course.

Will the interactive story app course also be updated?

'Build an Interactive Story App' is not currently scheduled for an update. For the time being, we're focused on lots of awesome new content like the upcoming Services course!

So, I didn't update my track because there are things that I would like to review from the old stuff. How could I update my Android track to the newest one?

Hi Iskandar,

you can access the new course from the Library, it's the first selection under Android; it won't push that into your track, but that way you can take the new one and see how it is.

You can also try adding '?show_current_version=true' to the end of the URL on the main course page.
