Calling method from rootView?

I tried referencing the id normally, but got this error:

For fragments, we must call the 'findViewById()' method from the 'rootView' that is created.

I replaced the Resource (R) with rootView. I am still getting errors. Am I somewhat on the right track by putting this into a parameter?

root view is the name of the view your referencing.

(Button)rootView.findViewById(R.....
