Can i put function definition inside a try block

We have to add two numbers after converting them into float and return none if we have ValueError or return the addded value

trial.py
try:
    def add(a,b):
        c = float(a) + float(b)
except ValueError:
        return None
else:
        return c

You must use try inside the function.

def add(a,b):
    try:
        return float(a) + float(b)
    except ValueError:
        return None
    else:
        return
