Can I use an addition assignment operator to find the finalScore?

//I'm trying to get this code to run.

var score = 10; var bonusPoints = 100; var finalScore; finalScore += score + bonusPoints;


//Should output 110 but instead receive the NaN error, is my code reading my variables as a string?

finalScore = score + bonusPoints;

I think because it has to do with the +=
