Can someone please explain what an anchor element is?

I'm not totally clear about what an anchor element is an is not. Can someone please define and give examples? Thanks!

An anchor element simply marks the beginning and end of a URL reference. So any time you want to link a URL (by itself or attaching it to text or an image) you will begin and end the URL reference with an anchor element.

An anchor element is an element whi is used for linking with urld to create an webpage... with combination with the href u can link with other webpages.
