Can you change social buttons location on your WordPress page? Is it tied to theme or can it be changed within a theme?

If your social follow buttons are located at the bottom of your wordpress page is there a way for example to move them to a different location? or is it directly tied to whatever theme you are using and you would have to change themes to change their location? I am asking for a company site so there are no posts, only pages. And if this is possible, how exactly is it done? Thanks!

There are tow ways, one through CSS and the second is to go the to the page that has the social icon menu and move it to where you want within the file. ie, go into index.php or page.php, or whereever it is in your theme, and move the menu from its current location and movie it to where you want.

I actually cannot seem to locate the page where the social icons are located... They are at the absolute bottom of the site currently, so I would assume they are located within the last page, but I don't see them. I would like them to be at the top of the site if possible.

Could you possibly be more specific in explaining this? Thanks!

What theme or framework are you using?

You need to go into the file structure, and find the where the secondary or social icons menu is. if it's at the bottom of the site, it very well could be located in footer.php you need to copy that code and then paste that code wherever you want the icons to be.

How do I tell what theme or framework is being used and go into the file structure? Basically someone else created this site for the business I am at and as part of my job I am responsible for editing it occasionally. I was also given permission to change location of the social icons because we want them to be more prominent. But I have no prior WP experience... Additionally, any specific video recommendations on Treehouse that can help me more? I've watched a couple WP videos already but they are all about how to create a WP and my WP is already created, I just have basically no idea how to edit it lol

Thanks so much for your help!

I would speak with the dev team that built your site, and discuss changing the social icons through them. What level user on the site are you? editor, admin? I'm assuming that you do not have access to any of the sites files, correct? If so there is nothing you can do and like above would need to speak with the dev's who built the site for you. Secondly, I would advise against working on a "live" site. There is a high possibility that the site will crash, and you will someone to fix it.

Sorry for the bad news. I would start learning Wordpress by creating a child-theme and work your way from there.

Hmm ok yeah that all makes sense. I was just hoping there was an easier way... I am an admin, but I don't think I have access to the site files. I appreciate all of your help tho!

yeah, man, Sorry. Trust me if for the best. you should take a look at the new 2017 theme and build your nav on your own at home.
