Can you explain the "compatibility issues" you alluded to when choosing "subtitles" as the srclang attribute?

To @nickpettit

I'm particularly interested in why "captions" were not chosen as the default srclang attribute as these are the starting point for most translation workflows. i.e. where you convert English into another language etc.
