can you explain the use of delta as the argument passed

Hi Ericka Erickson based on your own code snippet in the question, the parameter delta for the handleScoreChange (typo in your code for this function's name) function isn't being used. However, the purpose of the parameter is to dictate the incremental or decremental factor based on the prevScore and it's value.
