Cannot get image gallery clickable

I am trying to copy what Andrew has done, but my results are not replicating what the video is showing. What am I missing?

//Problem: User when clicking on image goes to a dead end.
//Poor User Experience
//
//Solution: Create an overlay with the large image. -- Lightbox
var $overlay = $('<div id="overlay"></div>');
var $image = $('<img>');

$overlay.append($image);

// Add overlay
$("body").append($overlay);
  //  An image
  //  A caption

// Capture the click event on a link to an image.
$("#imageGallery a").click(function(event){

  event.preventDefault();

  var imageLocation = $(this).attr("href");
  // Update overlay with the image linked in the link
  $image.attr("src", imageLocation);

  //. Show the overlay.
  $overlay.show();

  // Get Child's alt attribute and set caption
});

// When overlay is clicked
  //  Hide the overlay

Thanks,

Is your css ok? Like in the video?

    background:rgba(0,0,0,0.5);
    height:100%;
    width:100%;
    position:absolute;
    top:10%;
    text-align:center;
}```

First your $image and $overlay don't have values, it should be $image = $('<img>') and $overlay = $('<div id="overlay"></div>'). Second check if some of the code is commented because the way you posted your code it appears so.

Just reformated my post. I didn't realize about using the backticks. I hope that makes it clearer.

Am I still missing it?

That was it! I forgot to assign the value none to display! I was sitting here looking through the code know that I had to get rid of the overlay, but trying jQuery was just a dead end loop. Thanks!
