Cant add text to a new file in workspace. I can only use the Joy K index.html file.

I create a new file and it says "No preview for the file index.html 2" Cant add my own text. The numbered sidebar on the left won't show up to allow me to add text.

html 2 isn't a known extension so the workspace doesn't know what file type it is. Try renaming it index2.html.
