can't connect to mysql

When I open up the mysql workbench the interface looks different.

And when I open the "local instance 3306" connection it prompts me for a password. I have the previous temporary password I saved from a previous installation. I had to remove the mysql workbench and re install it. When I enter the password from the previous installation it says the password is wrong. I have tried to google different ways to retrieve/reset the password. But when I type the commands into the terminal is says : command not found

How can i fix this issue?
