Can't create index.php file

I'm on a Mac (Mavericks) and Text Editor won't let me safe a file with the extension .php It asks me to use .rtf ... Help please!

OK ;) Solved the problem myself ... it works with a real text editor (TextMate etc.), not the OS TextEdit.

Also, make sure that your TextEdit is in plain text mode (Format > Make Plain Text shift+cmd+T). Then when saving, uncheck the checkbox: If no extension provided, use ".txt". After that, you should be able to save a file as index.php
