Can't declare second variable.

Receiving error message on Step 2 ( Are you using the method that targets an element by its ID?) What's wrong with my code ?

Your code is fine, but you have unnecessary spaces that are confusing the checker. It will pass the challenge if you change var input = document.getElementById ( 'input-phrase' ); to var input = document.getElementById('input-phrase');
