You have to lowercase the red for the value and uppercase between the tags.

<select id="color" name="shirt_color">
        <option value="red">Red</option>
        <option value="yellow">Yellow</option>
        <option value="purple">Purple</option>
        <option value="blue">Blue</option>
        <option value="green">Green</option>
        <option value="orange">Orange</option>
