Can't paste SQlite source in console

Building Software from Source lesson

I'm running windows and I have tried in both chrome and firefox and see no way to paste into the console. There is no option that I can find anywhere. Trust me I've right clicked every tool bar and corner of the console and inspected any drop down menu I found.

If there is a way I hope its clarified in the teachers notes at some point.

I will get by I'm not afraid to type out a url manually...

Yes the Treehouse console, I tried opening it in a couple of browsers as well and neither gave me much options other than to copy its links, inspect eliments open a new tab and so forth. No where was paste an option, and of course cont-v does not work.

Would it be helpful if I posted a screen shot of what I get, I searched the forums for other posts about it and came up with a couple others complaining about the same thing with no solution found yet.

are you sure you have text in your clipboard before you are trying to paste? have you selected any text and selected copy from somwhere before trying to paste?

I really appreciate that you're trying to make sure all the obvious reasons are covered but trust me I made sure that I had text copied. I even opened an editor and copied it into that so I could have it open and available to me when I finally gave up and just typed in the url. I tried maximizing the console because Jim mentioned that there should be browser tools at the top you can right click on as well. I tried clicking at the bottom just incase those tools somehow got placed there in an updated verson of my browser. I think this is just something that is not working properly for windows users.

Solution when using windows: right click top left corner of the console browser. Pretty much where it says "Terminal - Google Chrome " This opens more options and you just need to click on Paste. Hope it works! it certainly worked for me.

I'm having the same issue -- I am unable to paste by right-clicking in the Treehouse console. I'm on Windows 7 Ultimate and the Google Chrome Browser

The console STILL DOES NOT WORK. Treehouse come on, I AM paying for a service, and the console is not working to paste any text. I am getting the same menu as Cherie. Can you fix this? And YES I have text in my clipboard and I'm using latest Chrome.

I have this same problem. Chrome / Win 8. I ma unable to use short cut ctl+v or right click on the console screen.

Solution what worked for me was to right click top left corner of the browser window which gives you edit options and use Paste from there. Hope this helps works for you.

Thank you! It didn't save me the hassle for that lesson but I'm sure I will need it in the future.

worst case: right click source link, copy link. Open in new tab in browser, right click paste in address bar and hand enter that address in the terminal. you can't use the url in video as it's an old source.

could be an issue with the windows version of chrome then. Ill tag Jim Hoskins and see if he has any idea whats going on.

Treehouse is closed for christmas for the week I believe, so it might be a while before he sees this.

In the meantime you can contact support, but again, im not sure if support is still open during the holiday.

It's because of foreign language keyboard setups. I guarantee anyone having issues with this does not have a standard US or UK keyboard setup. It's also an issue using special characters such as | or \ where on a EU keyboard you have to use the Alt Gr key for example. However if you click in the very top of the browser window where it says Terminal - Google Chrome, you will see an option Paste and this should work! If not, it looks unfortunately like a bit of awkward typing :(

This frustrated me but it had an easy solution: don't hover your cursor over the black area of the console when you right click. (It's intuitive to hover over where you want the text to paste, but resist this urge.) Go up to that thin transparent blue bar all the way at the top. The very top of the console window. The opart you would click on to drag the window. Then right click. Totally different options (and more of them) appear, including paste. When you select it, it will paste whatever is on your clipboard into where the command prompt is below.

Just saw someone posted this already. Sorry for redundancy.

You may not be able to copy and paste the url into the console but if you don't capitalize the "O" in the "-O" command the system will say "no url detected" so it may appear as though the problem is the url but it's actually the command. Otherwise, just paste the url into an editor and then type it into the console.
