I am working with win 8 os and have a european keyboard. It works in my codeeditor fine, but in the treehouse editor it wont.

I had the some problem and found out that (the right) alt+7 works just fine for me in combination with a german layout keyboard on a Mac. Should work with Win 8 too.

40,496 Pointsthanks, now it works! strange now i have it on the english on "shift + <" , well at least win has a shortcut for changing the language, so i can switch fast , lets see how long it takes till i throw my keyboard out of the window^^!

24,811 PointsI had this problem right now, using Windows 8, a german keyboard and Chrome.
What I finally did is just the curl. Then I typed the commands manually, which worked totally fine. I hope there are not much more pipe symbols coming up in this course.

39,199 PointsI've been wondering if this is a limitation of the Treehouse console or of the German Keyboard layout.
If you open up the terminal or command prompt and try to type a | does it work?

50,595 PointsJames Barnett I just did again some testing regarding the Pipe '|' symbol in combination with the german keyboard layout and it works just fine with the build in MacOS terminal but no chance with the Treehouse console.
And btw @Patrick Koch Sorry, but I haven't had enough coffee this morning and now I do just remember that I did the Treehouse console work a few months ago on a Mac with US Keyboard layout so indeed the Treehouse console at this moment doesn't seem to work with a german keyboard layout and german students (temporarily) have to change to US keyboard layout.
