Changing a User's Password Challenge

What am I doing wrong?

function newPasswordValid($userPassword, $currPassword, $newPassword, $confirmNewPassword) {
    //add code here
  if (!password_verify(password_hash($currPassword, PASSWORD_DEFAULT), $userPassword)) {
    return false;
  if ($newPassword != $confirmNewPassword) {
    return false;
  return password_hash($newPassword, PASSWORD_DEFAULT);

Hi there,

When you're using password_verify, you don't need to rehash anything. Try this:

if (!password_verify($currPassword, $userPassword)) {
    return false;

From php.net:

boolean password_verify ( string $password , string $hash )
