Connection refused. The connection attempt was rejected. The server may be down, or your network may not be properly configured.

when i try to connect though SFTP using cyberduck it is giving me the above error. Could you help me out?

Sounds like you could be using the wrong password or the wrong port.

  • Ensure you are using the password you used when creating the SSH key and not the normal FTP password.
  • Ensure you are using the correct port. You may have to refer to your hosting provider's documentation.

Keep in mind, as well, that some hosting providers will block an IP after too many failed connections. If that happens shoot them a quick email and they will unblock your IP address, providing you are the account holder.

It was fixed when I used Transmit.
