it is used in the onCreate method. It is used to create a log of type debug, for you to debug your code.

Log.d(TAG, mName);
getSimpleName();

Strips down the package name. So you will get out StoryActivity

System.out.println("Name-->"+StoryActivity.class.getName());
System.out.println("SimpleName-->"+ShapeDemo.class.getSimpleName());

Name-->com.test.StoryActivity
SimpleName-->StoryActivity
