createCriteria is deprecated, here is the solution

So you should do this:

// TODO: Get all categories
        Session session = sessionFactory.openSession();
        CriteriaQuery<Category> cq = session.getCriteriaBuilder().createQuery(Category.class);
        cq.from(Category.class);
        List<Category> categories = session.createQuery(cq).getResultList();
