css is not affecting my output even after adding site-container class

so far the "welcome!" position didnt change at all even after applying the class="site-container"

here is my code :

{% load static from staticfiles %} <!doctype html> <html> <head>

    <title>{% block title %}{% endblock %}</title>
    <link rel="styelsheet" href ="{% static 'css/layout.css' %}">
</head>

<body>
    <div class='site-container'>
    {% block content %}{% endblock %}
    </div>
</body>

I think you misspelled stylesheet:

    <link rel="styelsheet" href ="{% static 'css/layout.css' %}">
