DATABASE FOUNDATIONS S8. Created a new user on local host now I can't access root user. Says password is incorrect.

I created a user1 for on MySQL but tried changing the root connection because it wasn't working making a new connection, now it can access user1 on localhost but won't allow my to access root using my password, which I'm certain is right. Does anyone know how to solve this?
