date() function doesn't work

I have changed filetype from .html to .php then I changed the title content to <?php echo "Shirts 4 Mike"; ?> and then the year after copyright sign to<?php date('Y'); ?> but date doesn't display anything in resulting html page. Where's the problem?

already figured it out... "echo " was missing before date()

Try adding an "echo" statement, like <?php echo date('Y'); ?>
