del vs remove

when to use del vs remove?
example: messy = [5,2,8,3] I was asked to delete the even numbers. so I started with 8 del messy[2] and I was correct. Then they asked me to delete 2 I did the following del messy[1] and I got the wrong answer

lists.py
messy = [5, 2, 8, 1, 3]
messy.remove(1)

del : deletes the item from particular index remove : remove the first instance of the value from a list

For eg. mylist = [1, 2, 3, 4, 2] mylist.remove(2) mylist [1, 3, 4, 2]

Notice : del and remove will directly remove the items which means no assignment is required. Hope this helps
