Craig No, I don't use codepen yet, should I?? Also, can you suggest any sites Ithat I can look at for ideas??

I just started recently and find it useful because of the instant preview.

You can also send the link from the pen out to your mobile / ipad or other devices to check how it looks. You get a free blog to which will come in handy and loads of tutorials on how to use it to.

Takes a little bit of learning the interface as with anything but well worth a l@@k!

To get some of my ideas I go on sites creating themes for wordpress like woothemes

They have live demos of the sites to see them in action and gives you a load of different things to think about!

I am a fan of simplicity when it comes to a portfolio: a logo, a small paragraph about you and some of your best projects, that's all I would feature, but as I said, I love clean, simple design without clutter and lots of bells and whistles.

Get some ideas from what other people are doing, check out The Best Designs, I visit this site every day for inspiration and to see what the latest trends are and what other designers in the industry are doing.

Thanks guys!! It does help a lot

No Problem Jonny,

Do you use codepen at all ??

Craig

I agree with Stephen!

I like simplicity but that does not have to mean boring, you can use some JS and jQuery just to enhance certain features to show of some things you are capable of without going ott.

I found it difficult to start my site (which still Isn't finished) as I didn't plan well just dived straight in there.

My big suggestion would be to plan with pen and paper well and decide on your content before coding as you may waste lots of time on something that in the end is not even valid to the end user!

Hope this helps a little ! Craig
