does server name determines the IP address of a computer ?

when we type a server name in web browser , the how does TCP/IP determine the IP address of that server ?

This questions will be answered in more detail in the next course in the Digital Literacy track How the Web Works.

But the short answer is that when you type in a URL your computer looks that URL up in a system called DNS. Which is simply put like a phone book for web addresses, where each domain name has an IP address associated with it.
