Don't understand why the variable isn't containing the value?

I think, the problem you are asking because, in your function you've returned the value of argument before setting it to the passed argument.

function returnValur(pass_any_arg_here){
    var argument_passed = pass_any_arg_here;
    return argument_passed;
}
