ems or pxs width break points?

I am only just getting into the web design profession and am not familiar with all best practices as of yet. Is it common for web design professionals to define their layouts and break points using ems rather than pixels? Up until this point, Guil and others have always used pixels.

I could be wrong, but never heard of using ems for it and if you use chrome tools it shows the breakpoints in px, though never tried with ems lol

I hear you. I think that I'll be sticking to the pixel unit until advised to do otherwise, though pixels aren't pixels anymore. http://www.quirksmode.org/blog/archives/2010/04/a_pixel_is_not.html
