Emulator is running painfully slow

My computer's a bit old: Pentium Dual Core T4500 2.3 GHz processor, 6GB RAM. It just crawls when I try to run the emulator. Are there any settings I could choose or change to improve it?

i have the same problem, but you can install genymotion android emulator instead of original android emulator , it's really fast and perfect
