func downloadJSONFromURL(completion:([String:AnyObject]?)->())

What does the above statement mean? Is it any object because there are different types in the dictionary so is there the String in the statement? Does this mean that the data from the JSON is gathered and then passed to the function to execute?

in JSON can be any object so after this U must use what data U need after downloaded.
