getting confused with -bs

In this video we can see he type 

.....('/usr/sbin/sendmail -bs').........

What is the meaning from '-bs' I also quite a lot this kind of code like '-r' , '-V', etc such as

php -r "readfile('https://getcomposer.org/installer');" | php

I really getting confused with this :") Thanks

Any flags you see are command line options to specify certain behaviour.
