In the return_evens function, when I test it on my system from command prompt it works but when i check work on treehouse it says incorrect.

return item[0:4]
def first_and_last_4(item):
items1 = first_4(item)
items2 = item[-4:]
return items1 + items2
def odds(item):
return item[1::2]
def reverse_evens(item):
return item[-1::-2]

You are not trying a sufficient variety of inputs. Your function may work with odd-length lists, but what about when you try even-length lists?
