Unfortunately you can't add a color to your HTML file just like that. Look at it this way, you need the <script> tags (opening and closing) to style a specific element. But to fix your code error, It should look like this;

<!doctype html> <html> <head> <link href="styles.css" rel="stylesheet"> <style> h1 { color: blue; } </style> </head> <body>

<h1>Welcome to My Web Page!</h1>

</body> </html>

In the style.css, add this:

h1 { color: purple; }

The only way you should style things inside of an HTML file is by using a <style></style> tag. Instead style it inside of the styles.css file that you linked to the page.
