Something like this:

function max(a, b) {
    return (a > b) ? a : b
}

I my example I used something called a 'ternary operator'

 return (a > b) ? a : b

what this basically means is: is A greater than B? If yes - return A. If not - Return B

The equivalent to this is basically what you already wrote:

function max(a, b) {
    if (a > b) {
        return a;
    } else {
        return b;
    }
}
