how can i use the search on type function ?

in the method selection shown in the video ben used a search on type function to select onSaveInstanceState (cmd + f) did not work. Is this a settings thing ?

Nope. Once you hit CTRL+O to open the method selection popup, you can just start typing; no keyboard shortcut required!
