How could you make a view open and have another table view open behind that when pressing a tab?

I'm working on editing the Ribbit app, and I wanted to add a new texting tab. But I can't figure out how to make the friend relations table open, with the message writing tab open above that. Also it would be very helpful if you could make a tutorial video in response.
