How did User role_id became a foreign key to Role id?

I am a bit confuse how Hibernate referenced User role_id to Role id because role_id is not the name that was defined in the java class. Does that mean hibernate always appends the POJO's name to the column, such as Role id becomes role_id when created in the database?
