How do I align borders

I was attempting to code and the border just seems to fill the element width I set and not the text alignment

please post some of the code you tried

text-align: center; width: 60%; border-top: solid orange 5px; border-bottom: solid orangered 5px;

Maybe I should try box-sizing it
