How do I design a User Interface for an online application that is constantly increasing in size?

We have a product/application that has been written in-house with Ruby by my programmer colleagues. The time has come where the scale of the application has become restricted with the current UI design.

I am a print and web designer, more than a User Experience designer, but does anyone have any advice or know any websites or books to help me design a new way of ordering information and controlling pages layouts etc.

Any help would be appreciated. I've scoured the web, but can't find any relevant articles or inspiration.

Creating a modular style-guide is always a great way to ensure that all of your components are consistent and you reuse as much of your UI as possible. You can find a good example here: https://dribbble.com/shots/2080529-UI-Style-Guide/attachments/373853

I highly recommend learning responsive web design on Treehouse. Also, A List Apart is a great theory site as well as many others on the topic. This will allow flexible design and use on mobile if implemented correctly.
