How do I use jQuery to add to all links with the class "external", the target attribute with the value of "blank"?

Very confused on this one, any help would be greatly appreciated thanks

js/app.js
$(".external").attr("target").append("_blank");
index.html
<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
<head>
  <link rel="stylesheet" href="css/style.css" type="text/css" media="screen" title="no title" charset="utf-8">
  <title>Links Page</title>
</head>
<body>
  <h1>Links</h1>
  <ul>
    <li><a href="http://google.com" class="external">Google</a></li>
    <li><a href="http://yahoo.com" class="external">Yahoo</a></li>
  </ul>
  <script src="//code.jquery.com/jquery-1.11.0.min.js" type="text/javascript" charset="utf-8"></script>
  <script src="js/app.js" type="text/javascript" charset="utf-8"></script>
</body>
</html>

The attr() method takes a second parameter that is the value of the attribute that you are targeting.

$('.external').attr('target', '_blank');

I agree; I've been following Front End Web Development track, and have been learning perfectly until the jQuery course with Andrew Chalkley. His teaching style is very confusing and the test questions and coding challenges aren't intuitive. He jumps around, says not to worry about something, etc.

I hope Team Treehouse reviews this and makes improvements.
