How do you set a badge value on a UITabBarItem?

My entire code is down below. The line that troubles me is:

MainViewController.m
self.tab.badgeValue = @"3";

Here's everything:

MainViewController.m
#import "MainViewController.h"
#import "UITabBarItem.h"

@implementation MainViewController

- (void)viewDidLoad {
    [super viewDidLoad];

    NSArray *tabBarItems = self.tabBarController.tabBar.items;

    // Add your code below! The property for MainViewController's
    // tab bar controller is named 'tabBarController'.
   [self.tabBarController setSelectedIndex:2];
   UITabBarItem *tab = tabBarItems[self.tabBarController.selectedIndex];
   self.tab.badgeValue = @"3";
}

@end

I solved the problem with

MainViewController.m
 tab.badgeValue = @"3";

Full code here:

MainViewController.m
#import "MainViewController.h"
#import "UITabBarItem.h"

@implementation MainViewController

- (void)viewDidLoad {
    [super viewDidLoad];

    NSArray *tabBarItems = self.tabBarController.tabBar.items;

    // Add your code below! The property for MainViewController's
    // tab bar controller is named 'tabBarController'.
   [self.tabBarController setSelectedIndex:2];
   UITabBarItem *tab = tabBarItems[self.tabBarController.selectedIndex];
   tab.badgeValue = @"3";
}

@end
