How does the regex '^$' match a single slash?

the matching pattern is r'^$' That matches 'the beginning of the line' and 'the end of the line', with NOTHING in between. Your instructions say to match '/'.

I don't see how matching "nothing"* matches a slash. Please explain.

*Yes, the "nothing" is really a blank line, or the beginning of a line and the end of one.

If it's really just matching the base web address "http://www.example.com", with the protocol "http://" and the website address "www.example.com" stripped off, don't ask users to match "/".
