How to change the color of a downloaded pattern in photoshop?

Hi guys,

Need some help with applying a new color to a pattern I downloaded from Tileables using Photoshop.

I want to use the pattern on a site I am building, but the current colors do not suit the brand. I want to keep the texture of the background, with all the particular tones and shades (the background resembles scrunched paper) but apply my new overall color, say gold for example, how would I do this?

I believe that by changing the saturation in photoshop you can get it to any color you want. Go to Image -> settings and from there you can either choose Hue/Saturation or color balance. Also shortcuts:

Ctrl + U = Hue/Saturation Ctrl + B = Color balance

Play around with those and let me know if it worked for you.

You can also add a layer mask

  • Hue/Saturation -with the Colorize box checked

Also Image/Adjustments/Replace color -will target like colors and change only them

Your suggestions worked, thank you. I still have so much to learn on photoshop, ideally I would be able to design my own background, not sure how yet though.

If you just want a texture background, I suggest you to play around with different brushes and gradients. Eventually you'll get something you like.
