How to create a side menu on left or right hand side?

What's the best way to create more than one menu? Such as a left hand side menu or right hand side menu? through widget and plugin?

Hi, Arshdeep: Thank you for your help. I know how to make multicolumn layout in css, I was asking about the wordpress. I want to add a second menu on the left hand side. Not sure what's the proper way to do it in wordpress.
