When I first signed up at Treehouse I did not want to give up my text editor. After using Workspaces for a week or two I learned that it is a great teaching tool. It is HARDER and that is GOOD. It makes your brain watch the code more closely, thus making you better at writing code. The only time I copy and paste into Atom is when I'm hopelessly stuck with a huge block of code.

With Workspaces having the files in place when you start each lesson is magical. If you give it chance I'm pretty sure you will learn to love it.
