I am having trouble with the challenge where I need to create the HTML document root. I am confused.

the html tags should go just below the doctype tag. the html tags are known as the document root because every part of the website goes inside those tags.

You want to make sure that the computer knows what kind of document that you are coding.

by typing in

<!DOCTYPE html>

you are telling the computer that you are making an HTML file.
